What is south okkalapa?

South Okkalapa is a neighborhood located in the eastern part of Yangon, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). It is bordered by North Okkalapa to the north, Dawbon to the west, Thingangyun to the south, and Thanlyin to the east.

South Okkalapa is a largely residential area with a mix of commercial and industrial activities. It is home to several government offices including the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy, and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. The neighborhood also has several schools and colleges, hospitals, shopping malls, restaurants, and parks.

One of the main landmarks in South Okkalapa is the Botataung Pagoda, a Buddhist temple that is believed to have been built around 2,500 years ago. The temple is famous for its golden stupa that is said to contain a sacred hair relic of the Buddha.

The area has a well-connected transport system, with several bus routes and a train station that connects to other parts of Yangon. The Yangon International Airport is also located only 12km from South Okkalapa.
